CST Global-sponsored canoeist, Peter Linksted, is relishing his chance to compete at the 2018 ICF Canoe Slalom World Junior and Under 23 World Championships in Ivrea, Italy, from 17th to 22nd July.
“I am currently training with the British team at the Lee Valley White Water Centre in preparation for the World Championships in Ivrea, Italy,” explained Peter. “We flew to Italy on Monday 9th July, well ahead of the competition, to allow training and familiarization time on the Ivrea World Championship course. This preparation time is critical, as the course has been updated and modernized recently.
“After summer, I am moving down to Lee Valley to train full-time with the British team. It’s been great to meet all the athletes, coaches and staff at Lee Valley over the last few weeks, ahead of my move. I have also had a chance to recce the area where I will be living, come the end of the year.”
The stunning Ivrea course in northern Italy has enjoyed two years on the ICF World Cup circuit, including hosting an Olympic selection event in 2016. The course literally runs through Ivrea, the pre-eminent city of the region. It makes a spectacular backdrop for the athletes and showcases this lesser known region of Italy to the world.
