CST Global-sponsored canoeist, Peter Linksted, came 21st at the 2018 ICF Canoe Slalom World Junior and Under 23 World Championships in Ivrea, Italy, earlier this month.
Peter explains that he was disappointed with the result, “My preparation, training and race-times at the Lee Valley White Water Centre, immediately prior to the World Championships, could not have been better. I progressed to the semi-final at Ivrea with a four second advantage. During the race, however, I dropped my paddle and had to retrieve it. This was a critical error which was unrecoverable in a world-class competition where time differences are marginal. It put an immediate end to my podium hopes and left me extremely frustrated.
“Handling errors and disappointment positively is an important learning curve in effective, world class competition and helps make you mentally resilient. I am now focused on my next competition, where I hope to put the record straight!
“I will continue training with the British team at the Lee Valley White Water Centre over summer, before making the move to Lee Valley full-time, later in the year.”
