CST Global is an independent manufacturer of III-V photonic devices who provide custom foundry services in InP, GaAs, GaN and GaSb on 2”, 3” and 4” wafers, and have ongoing, active research and development programmes in various technology areas in partnership with private and public bodies.

CST Global also develop and manufacture custom and standard InP laser products for the FTTx (Fibre to the Home / Premises / Building) and PON (Passive Optical Network) markets and are currently in the process of ramping production to >1M devices per month.

CST Global are ISO 9001: 2015 certified and currently employ 65 staff in R&D, wafer fabrication and backend assembly & test at their facility in Hamilton Technology Park, Blantyre


An exciting opportunity has arisen for the recruitment of a Business Administration Modern Apprenticeship within CST Global’s support team. As a Modern Apprentice you will work towards a Business Administration qualification and undertake any other training required for the post.

You will learn the skills to carry out a varied range of administrative duties in supporting the organisation including, incoming and outgoing mail duties, dealing with telephone calls, reception duties, photocopying, filing, maintaining records and supporting the organisation’s administrative systems and procedures.


You will be aged 16-19 years old (or a 2019 official summer leaver) and be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for this role and a commitment to learn.

Activities/Responsibilities –

  • Act as first point of contact for visitors
  • Respond to enquiries by phone and email
  • Maintaining customer and company records
  • Placing orders for stationary and maintaining office supplies
  • Assist with purchase orders, scanning and saving documentation electronically and hard copies
  • Distribute incoming mail and prepare outgoing mail
  • Support the administration function with the office
  • Assist with the organisation of meetings, organising catering, set up and set down of the events/meetings.
  • Coordinating room bookings for meetings
  • Assist in digital marketing activities under guidance
  • Other tasks as requested by the business


  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
  • Experience in customer facing role
  • Experience of working as part of a team

Personal fit

  • Essential - 3 National 5’s at A, B, C pass or equivalent must include English, Mathematics and Administration and IT or Computing
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good telephone manner
  • Good time management and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Organised approach
  • Able to follow instruction and work as part of a team
